I cannot believe that winter break has already ended and we are starting the new semester on Monday! This first semester went by without me realizing it. I'm sitting in my room at home packing and just thinking about where all the time went! My first semester was such a learning experience and I was exposed to so many things. I'm ready to start the new semester with all my friends and to take on all the wonderful things that it will have to offer!
But this blog post is less about me and more about you. As I'm sure many of you know and will think about every day in January, at the end of this month, some of you will be finding out your decision from Carolina. Some will get the message that they want, and others will get a decision less then desirable. I just wanted to say that admissions into a college does not define you and that regardless of what happens, you will end up in a place that makes you happy. I was in your spot what seems like yesterday, and I remember sitting in front of my computer at night, just waiting for Connect Carolina to load my decision page. Obviously, we all know how it ended for me, but for almost all of my friends that applied to UNC, I cannot say they had the same joyful decision that I received. I wish we could welcome everyone in the Carolina family, but with the college admissions process, that would simply be impossible. However, all my friends that did not get in are still very happy at the colleges they ended up at. Just keep your head up high and do not think about it too much. I was such a mess in January thinking about what decision I would get from UNC and I wish I had not because I wasted so much time just thinking about it. So take it from me and all my one semester of college wisdom: Don't stress and enjoy what time you have left in high school.
I cannot wait to get this semester underway and share all my experiences with you all!
As always, feel free to either leave a comment or e-mail me at cartermc@live.unc.edu if you have any questions, concerns, statements, or just need someone who was in your shoes recently to talk to!
Until next time,
Carter
