Congratulations to all newly admitted students!
During your four years in college, in addition to meeting wonderful new people, you're going to become very closely acquainted with a wide selection of new books. Sometimes even more closely acquainted than you'd like. With some, you'll develop a love-hate relationship--I'm thinking of my poor Econ 101 textbook, which endured my countless abuses but still mercifully carried me through to an A--while others will become treasured friends, to which you'll return time and time again throughout the rest of your life.
Struck by a spell of literary nostalgia, I compiled a little overview-collage of the books that have impacted me the most during my studies. Quite a few of these have become my favorites, cozily nestled at this moment at the top of my bookshelf. This is just a small sampling of the kinds of books you'll be reading at Carolina--not just in English classes, but in such departments as Political Science, Art, Comparative Lit and Slavic Languages.
So feel free to peruse the titles and click on the images--each one will take you to the Wikipedia page of that author or book. And if you'd like to share some favorite titles of your own, by all means, please do.
