A Week in Highlights

Hello everyone! Thought y'all might like to hear about what made my typical "average" week special.

Some Highlights from My Week:

-Learning how to fill a cavity and prep a tooth for a crown, then (very badly) practicing on a dummy at the Dental School Sim Lab! Through a program on campus, I'm matched with a Dental School student mentor. Definitely one of the coolest opportunities I've had on campus.

-77 degree weather in mid-November.

-Really, really, really enjoying ANTH 147 and INTS 210 classes this week. Global health, infectious diseases, climate change, Laos, access to health care. I love coming out of a class excited and inspired, which happens pretty often here.

-Finding out that I did not fail my latest Molecular Biology test. Always a plus. It's been hard coming to college and making grades that I never would have dreamed of making in high school, but on the other hand, when I do get an A, I know it's been earned and that makes it all the much sweeter.

-Scoping out books for a final research paper in Davis on a lazy Friday afternoon.

-Seeing the Rockettes in Durham. Chapel Hill may not be Broadway, but you'd be surprised at the variety of entertainment options available on campus and in the Triangle area.

-Making a new friend.

-Hearing the Nutcracker Soundtrack for the first time this year outside of the Memorial Hall Ticket Booth. Hearing Tchaikovsky on the way to class has become my new holiday tradition.

Sometimes it's the small things that end up making your week. As your acceptance letters start coming in, think about what kind of highlights you want your future weeks to consist of. Whether your idea of a highlight is going to yoga class in the Ackland Museum, watching nationally ranked teams make history, going on a kayaking expedition with your friends, hearing experts discuss the Arab Spring, or just running through campus on a nice day... you can be sure you can make them at Carolina.
