I hope everyone had a fantastic week. Professors are trying to get in there last tests before finals right now, so I had a Hebrew test Monday, and a physics and calc test on Tuesday. Needless to say it was a rough way to start the week, but once that was over with this week has been easy sailing! Now it's the weekend and it's time to relax (As soon as I finish my physics homework that is).
Next week is a two day week and then we start Thanksgiving break on Wednesday. Residence halls are closing on Wednesday, but I'm going to be flying home Tuesday night. I cannot express how excited I am to go home and see all my friends. I did not go home for fall break (I went to NYC instead to visit a friend) and so this will be the first time I have been home since I left for college. It's been chilly here in Chapel Hill recently, so I'm ready for the 81 degree weather that Gainesville is having right now!
Coming to college, it was really weird to leave home. Both of my brothers stayed in Florida for college so I am the first (and last, being the youngest) to venture out of the state for school. I'm not going to say that it hasn't been rough at first. I did not know anyone and had no close friends to turn to do stuff with. I was really homesick at first. However, as time goes on, it gets better and better each day and I now have plenty of friends that I can call up last minute and ask to hang out with. I would say that I'm still a little homesick though, even though my life here is fantastic. It's going to be weird going home because I now have this completely separate life in Chapel Hill from Gainesville. Living so far away from home has prevented me from going home, which is both good and bad. Good because it has allowed me to cultivate my life and friendships here, but bad because i have missed out on some events back home that I would have liked to be able to go to. So here are my feelings, opinions, and thoughts on all things about being homesick:
1) If you are homesick, Skype with your friends or call them! It's always nice to hear/see a familiar voice/face, and it will make you feel a lot better
2) If you live close enough, fight the urge to go home a lot. Going home a lot prevents you from building up your friendships here and if anything, perpetuates you feeling homesick. I've seen this happening to a few of my friends that are from Raleigh
3) Keep busy! If you're involved in some stuff on campus, you won't have time to miss home because you'll be doing a lot of stuff.
4) Enjoy UNC! There is no place in the world like this and you only have a few years here, so enjoy it while you can!
I hope you guys have a wonderful Turkey Day and enjoy your break. Once we come back, only a week and a half until the end of the semester and final exams (Yikes! Where did the semester go?!?!?!). I've attached a few pictures of campus right now to show how pretty fall is and the changing of the leaves (somethings that I don't see as much in Florida!)
My beautiful morning view from my floor of my dorm.
I picked these from the bushes in front of Morehead Planetarium. All of the flowers there are in bloom right now and they are incredibly beautiful!
Campus is so beautiful at this time of year.
Until next time,
Carter
